Hi’ilani #13/S/Libero
Early on in the season, Hi’ilani was chosen as one of the team’s setters, a position at which she naturally excels. More recently, however, Hi’ilani has emerged as the team’s most skilled passer. As the team’s libero, Hi’ilani’s ability to read servers and hitters and react accordingly is by far her most impressive skill. She consistently gets the ball directly to the setter, even in fast-paced, high-pressure situations. Hi’ilani is so fast, in fact, at times it seems as though she comes out of nowhere to save the ball. Combined with her natural setting ability, Hi’ilani is one of the team’s most versatile players.

Tiara #11/OH
As the team’s most consistent player, it is no surprise that Tiara is also one of the team’s top scorers. When Tiara is up to serve, the coaches can temporarily relax as her aces and reliable serving push the team up the scoreboard every game. In addition to her reliability as a server, she is one of the team’s strongest passers and is consistently able to deliver the ball to the setter. Though Tiara is anxiously awaiting a growth spurt so that she can be positioned front row to kill the ball from the net, for now she is truly a force to be reckoned with in the back row.

Faith #12/OH/S
Faith is by far the quietest member of the 12U Paulele team. After expressing interest in setting midway through the season, the coaches were delighted to discover that Faith is atalented setter! She sets the ball to her teammates with graceful hands almost effortlessly. Combined with her killer serve, Faith demonstrates a degree of ball controlthat cannot be taught. Her new role as one of the team’s setters has enabled Faith to become more vocal both on and off the court and she is quickly becoming a leaderon the team..
~ Ashley Kamiura, Assistant Coach 12U
|
Tihani Guzman #8/OH
Tihani is a very talented, athletic and driven. She has improved greatly in passing and serving consistently. She loves to be an outside hitter and has hops which is an asset to that position and is positive with teammates and playing the sport.
~ Casey Takashima, Head Coach 14U

Stefanee Fontanilla #10/S
Stefanee is one of two setters on the team. She always brings a positive attitude to practice and shows the desire to improve by taking instruction well. Because of her hard work and dedication, her setting abilities have greatly improved as the season has progressed. With such a positive work ethic, Stefanee can accomplish anything she sets her mind to. ~ Kristen Rabe, Assistant Coach 14U
Kaila plays as an outside hitter and one of our straight A student's. She is one of the best servers on the team who we can count on when we are down. Her potential future for vball has alot of possibilities!
~ John Matapua,Assistant Coach 14U
|
Ariel Faumina #18/OPP Ariel is a first year club player and we welcome her to Paulele VBC. From the very beginning Ariel fit right in and made herself at home with all the players, being that she is one of two girls, from our team of nine, who do not attend Pearl City High School. From the beginning of the season until now, Ariel has progressed tremendously in her all around game, she has been placed in almost every position on the court and transitions well in every circumstance. The coaching staff is very excited to see her progress and look forward to seeing more growth from Ariel as we head into mid-season. Danielle Medina #10/MB From the beginning of the season until now, Danielle has made huge strides to becoming the volleyball player that she is capable of being. It took a lot of motivation and hard work, but she is more focused and determined to improve. As a lefty, Danielle has a bigger challenge in learning skills such as approaching and footwork, but she has tried hard and all of her hard work is paying off as we, as a coaching staff, see great improvement in her all-around play. We hope to see more growth from Danielle as we progress through the season, and hopefully see her playing as a Lady Chargers next season!
Christynn Hara #15/L; OH
As a returning player to Paulele, this has been a very challenging season for Christynn. She shows great potential to be an all-around player with a focus on serving and passing, which is why she has seen a lot more playing time in the defensive aspect of the game as a libero. Christynn brings a lot of heat in her jump serve and her hitting, and she is working very hard on getting both of those skills down. We know that she can become a force at the service line and the net and look forward to seeing where her determination and hard work will get her, on and off the court throughout the rest of this season, her high school volleyball career , and beyond.

Aloha Paulele VBC Ohana!
I hope you all had lots of FUN at our Club Benefit Dinner Fundraiser last Saturday. I know I enjoyed the event, and I heard that many of you did as well. YOU ALL took part of making this event happen and run so smooth.
So here's a recap of what all went down and how we all did as a club.
First of all this was definitely a BIG CLUB effort. So a BIG thanks to all the coaches, parents & players that attended, dontated and volunteered their time help setup and make sure everything was in place before we opened the doors to our guest. Was great to see a sea of RED Paulele shirts with hands willing to help setup that night.
Also, great job to everyone that invited their family and friends to our benefit dinner. We hope they all had lots of fun and they all got to play some bingo, win some raffle prizes and take home some great silent auction items. And Congrats to Pam, our 12's team parent for winning the $200 cash pot! With that BIG thank you to Jodie, our club treasurer & Donna, our 16's team parent for running the cashier's table, selling lots of raffle tickets which brought in a total of $425 for the club.
Additionally, I would like to thank the following people for their HUGE support & involvement in our club benefit dinner and how the club has benefited from it:
Jay Boy's Catering for providing the onolicious food. Mel & John Matapua and coach Casey and all the 14s players & parents for helping to serve the food and the drinks all night to all our guests, estimated to be about 300 people! We also had about 100 take out plates that were sold as well. So our total ticket sales made $4,090!!! I know it was a lot of hard work, but great job to everyone in the club on selling tickets.
Josie and the 12's team, players & coaches for working the Country Store and SELLING OUT of our onolicious desserts and homemade snacks that the 12s, 14s & 16s teams donated. Also great job on selling & promoting our club gear. We made a total of $466 from the Country Store.
Thank you to the 12s, parents Ros & Val for running the Bingo games and donating the bingo cards. The bingo games brought in a total of $246 for the club.
Pam Burgess for helping to write letters for donations and collecting all the donations that were given from the different teams as well as running the Silent Auction table all night. A Big Mahalo to some of our corporate donations from Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort for donating the Hawaii Five-O gift basket, Germaine's Luau, Costco, Oceanic & The Sky’s the Limit (TSTL) Auto Detail.
And thank you to the 12s for donating the Michael Kor's purse from Nadine Kuikahi, the Silver Swarovski Crystal Earrings from Kaena Rodrigues, The Sky’s the Limit (TSTL) Auto Detail, which donated (2) $50 gift certificates was donated from Hi’ilani's father Abram Correia.
14s for donating the Oakley Bag, Crock Pot Trio and set of wine glasses that were given as raffle prizes or sold at the silent auction.
16s for the Koa frame, Oceanic Gift basket, Jamba juice gift cards and the HP printer. From these we raised a total of $230 from our silent auctions for the club. With other items being sold going to the individual teams traveling expenses.
And of course I could not forget our amazing 16s coach, aka MC Na Te (as he likes to be called on Facebook) for graciously volunteering to be our emcee all night! He did an amazing job! And he did mention to me that he would love to MC other parties and events, so please give him a call, any time! ;)
And lastly, but definitely not the least a very very BIG Mahalo to the Schlitzkus Family for donating a lot time and supplies to make this fundraiser happen and also to Robin's Painting for donating the big grand prize of the newest iPad. And also for helping big time donating his company truck to hall all the necessary items for the benefit dinner.
So ALL IN ALL as a club we made $4,005 after expenses. Our goal is $6,000 for this season, to cover all the operating expenses, so we still have some more fundraising to do to cover the rest of the costs, but I know that we can do it as a CLUB!
Whew....so sorry for the very very long recap, but really, you all deserve a BIGGER MAHALO then I can possibly give through this email.
I would just like to say that I am so proud to be a part of this great club, Paulele VBC, and I hope you all are too! Btw, hopefully you all received our club photo "Mahalo" picture when you left the fundraiser. If not, please let me know and I will give some copies to your coach to bring to the next practice.

12U Players
Punahele Latu/#7/MB - A Key Leader As the team captain, Punahele's leadership is evident on the court. In the middle hitter position, she can be counted on to block and make kills in some of the most crucial game situations. Even when off the court, Punahele manages to be an encouraging force from the side. Leadership is truly her strength – a necessity for any great team. Her skills and ability to lead will make her attractive to collegiate scouts later in her volleyball career. Lauryn Patrizio/#20/MB - A Positive Spark With as fierce as she is at the net, you would never be able to tell she's a little short for her middle hitter position. Every week she leads the team in kills. Her consistency is reliable and a coach's dream. "When the ball is set to me all I think about is hitting it as hard as I can and making sure it goes down, because that's one of my main goals right now," said Lauryn. On the court, Lauryn is always positive and her teammates can count on her infectious smile to lift their spirits in games and during practice. Paulele looks forward to seeing Lauryn grow into one of the best players in Hawai‘i. Annastayzia Kuikahi/#10/Lib - Small but MightyBehind every great volleyball team you will find a great libero. Tayzia may be small but she plays the back row like she’s playing for two people. Her speed and agility are critical assets for the team. Tayzia is a great example on the court as she knows what it means to NEVER give up. She knows her responsibility and takes care of it on the court. Tayzia is sure to be a great collegiate player some day and we are blessed to have her in Paulele. ~ Kau'i Burgess, Head Coach 12U
| 14U Players
Kiersten Doane/#16/OH She has been a joy to work with. She puts in 100% in whatever drill we have her do. She has improved in all aspects of the game and more. I see the passion and heart that she gives every practice, scrimmage and tournament. I know she will keep it for the rest of the season because it seems like it's her nature and I hope she doesn't lose that passion and return next year. ~ Casey Takashima, Head Coach 14U
Tyra Johnson-Oshiro/# Lib
In her 1st year playing club volleyball and she is showing great potential not only as a Libero, but also as a setter. If she continues to excel and continues to be part of Paulele volleyball club down the road, she will add great depth and experience!
~ John Matapua,Assistant Coach 14U
She has taken on the role of team captain with diligence and fortitude. She is a hard worker who continues to show growth in her setting and leadership abilities. Mariah is on her way to becoming a great all-around player. ~ Kristen Rabe, Assistant Coach 14U
| 16U Players
Plays Libero for the Paulele VBC Girls 16’s team. After many years of playing soccer Persian has made a transition to competitive volleyball. Persian contributes to our team is a positive and never give up attitude. She works very hard learning all of the skills necessary to be an effective libero for our team. When Persian has difficulties she will try to correct her mistake until she understands what she is doing wrong. We are very lucky to have Persian on her team and look forward to her growth throughout the season.
Leilani is one of two players on our team who does not attend Pearl City High School. As a freshman from Leilehua High School, this proud mule is a first year player on Paulele and is a welcome addition to our team. She has made herself right at home. Her progress as a player has improved with every practice. She is a self-motivator and has potential to be a very good volleyball player. We are looking forward to seeing her in action on her high school team against Pearl City in the upcoming season.
Cobie is a returning player to Paulele VBC, as a second year player, Cobie has shown great improvement in many different aspects to the game. She takes criticism well and tries to improve on errors and do her very best. She has worked very hard to get to where she is at this point. Two aspects we have made Cobie focus on, is serving and hitting. She has taken great strides to improve her approach and her arm swing to become a more effective middle blocker for our team.
